What he said
And maybe in the five next five 10 years, uh and I think that Japan will actually resolve this issue. But it may be the only nation that's able to resolve this issue.
'The end of the unipolar moment' is an interpretive framing with no measurable criteria. Indicators are mixed: US reputation fell below China's in Pew polling, but the US still projects force globally.
There was no lasting peace deal, and things did not return to normal by 2026-09-24. The April ceasefire and the June Islamabad Memorandum collapsed on 2026-07-08. Hostilities resumed in September, and Trump rejected Iran's ceasefire proposal on 2026-09-26.
Gulf exports were heavily curtailed by the Hormuz closure through much of 2026, and that did push up oil prices and slow growth. But the global economy is far from 'dead': the IMF projects 3.1% growth for 2026 and even nudged its forecast up in October.
Airfares did rise: US domestic fares were up 7.7% YoY in Q1 2026, with reports of up to about 27% by May, and airlines added surcharges. But jet fuel fell back near pre-war levels by June, and Delta reported record sales days, so vacations did not become unaffordable.
I found no reports of Iran cutting undersea cables as of Oct 2026. Regional outages came instead from drone strikes on AWS data centers in the UAE in early March. This was low-confidence and framed as a possibility. (Checked only against Wikipedia war articles; the web search budget ran out, so absence of reports is not fully confirmed.)
Deadline 2036. Early signs against: no 100-fold rise in migration flows, and US southern border apprehensions fell over 90% year-on-year in early 2025 to about 7,000-8,500 per month, the lowest since the 1960s.
The window runs to 2046. There are early signs of fragmentation (tariffs, a US-China managed-trade 'Board of Trade'), but global trade has not split into closed mercantilist blocs.
Long-horizon (to 2046) composite forecast. As of Oct 2026 the Iran war and Hormuz disruption have produced fertilizer/food shocks and remilitarization talk, but no measurable deindustrialization, deurbanization, famine-genocide-slavery wave is established.
As of Oct 2026 the US-Iran war (begun 2026-02-28) is unresolved and grinding on as a war of attrition; the US still has roughly 40-50k troops in the region, though in Aug 2026 the Pentagon reportedly weighed reducing its Gulf presence after the war. Israel is not yet regional hegemon. Deadline 2046.
